Breast Implant Shapes and Sizes
In modern plastic surgery, two main implant shapes are used: round and anatomical (teardrop-shaped). Round implants provide a fuller appearance in the upper part of the breasts and create a more elegant silhouette. Anatomical implants feature a more natural breast shape: their upper part is thinner, and the lower part is fuller, thus mimicking the natural breast lines and ensuring a more subtle, but no less aesthetic result. Both shapes are available from leading manufacturers such as Mentor and Polytech.
Implant size is selected considering body proportions, chest width, the amount of existing tissue, skin elasticity, lifestyle, and personal expectations.
Who Can Undergo Breast Augmentation with Implants?
The surgery is most often chosen by women with small breasts, patients after pregnancy and breastfeeding, women experiencing breast asymmetry, patients after breast cancer surgery, or women with underdeveloped breasts.
The procedure helps address self-confidence issues, reduces discomfort due to asymmetry, helps restore shape after weight loss or pregnancy, and improves psychological well-being related to body proportions.
How Is Breast Augmentation with Implants Performed?
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes 1-2 hours. The surgeon makes an incision in one of three places: under the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit. Then a pocket is created for the implant, which can be placed under the glandular tissue, under the chest muscle, or partially under the muscle.
The implant is carefully inserted into the formed pocket, ensuring proper position and symmetry. The incision is closed with multi-layer sutures, minimizing the visibility of scars. At the end of the surgery, sterile dressings and a compression bra are applied.
Post-operative Care for Breast Augmentation with Implants
- Swelling in the breasts persists for 2-3 weeks;
- Sutures are removed 7-10 days after surgery;
- For 3-4 weeks after surgery, you cannot raise your arms above your head to avoid possible implant movement;
- A special post-operative bra must be worn for 6 weeks after surgery;
- It is advisable to avoid active physical activity and lymphatic drainage massage for 2-3 months after surgery;
- For the first year after surgery, it is advisable to avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds so that scars become white and barely visible;
- Most patients return to work 7-14 days after surgery.
