What is lip augmentation?

Lip augmentation is minimally invasive aesthetic procedure in which fillers with hyaluronic acid are used.

Procedure helps increase naturally thin lip volume, restore lip fullness lost with age, improve their proportions, contour, or even out shape. It can also be applied for reconstructive purposes – after injuries or congenital defect correction.

Main advantage of this procedure is fast, individually adapted result. Since hyaluronic acid fillers naturally resorb in body, their effect is temporary and when necessary can be neutralized with help of hyaluronidase. Procedure is performed by qualified doctor using certified preparations.

Preparations used

InSense Clinic uses certified, CE-marked medical hyaluronic acid fillers for lip augmentation:

• Lip augmentation with Teoxane RHA2 preparation is performed for lip volume increase, contour emphasis, and fine perioral wrinkle correction. Formula adapts to facial movements, so lip area remains natural and mobile.
• Lip augmentation with Kiss RHA preparation is performed for subtle lip volume increase, contour emphasis, hydration, and fine perioral wrinkle correction.
• Lip augmentation with Fillmed Lips tissue filler is performed for lip volume increase and contour shaping, as well as fine perioral wrinkle correction.
• Lip augmentation with Juvederm Ultra Smile tissue filler is performed for lip volume increase, Cupid's bow and vermillion border shaping, and fine wrinkle correction around lips.

How to prepare for lip augmentation procedure?

• With 1-2 weeks remaining before procedure, blood-thinning medication and supplement use should be discontinued if doctor allows.
• 24-48 hours before procedure, alcohol and active skincare products (for example, acids, retinol) should be avoided. Do not depilate or scrub lip area.
• It is important to inform doctor if there is tendency for lip herpes – injection can activate it.
• On procedure day, skin must be clean, without makeup. It is useful to be rested, consume sufficient fluids – this will ensure smoother lip augmentation and healing.

Procedure course

Procedure begins with consultation with plastic surgeon or dermatologist, who discusses procedure goals, assesses patient health, analyzes lip shape, volume, symmetry, relationship with facial features so result looks natural and harmonious.

Lips and surrounding area are disinfected. When necessary, anesthetic cream is used. Lidocaine present in preparations also reduces discomfort.

Preparation is gently injected at several points and shaped for desired lip volume, contour, and symmetry.

Most patients during procedure feel only light pressure or discomfort. Entire procedure usually lasts about 20–45 minutes.

After lip augmentation

After procedure, mild swelling, redness, or bruising may occur. These symptoms most commonly appear within 24–48 hours and gradually disappear within 1–2 weeks. Initially, lips may be slightly hard or firmer until filler fully adapts to tissues. Most patients can immediately return to usual activity.

First 24–48 hours, it is important to avoid alcohol, intensive physical activity, heat (saunas, hot baths, hot drinks), excessive touching, pressing, or massaging lips. It is useful to apply cold compresses for 10–15 min several times per day, sleep with head elevated, drink sufficient water, gently clean lips with warm water. After 24 hours, gentle lip balm can be used.

The final aesthetic result is typically assessed after 1-2 weeks, once initial swelling has subsided and the filler has integrated with the tissues.
