How and why do dilated capillaries appear?
Dilated capillaries can appear for various reasons. One of most common is heredity: if relatives have visible dilated capillaries, probability of their appearance is higher. Long-term sun ray exposure damages skin and weakens blood vessel walls. Hormonal changes, especially during pregnancy or when using hormonal contraception, can also contribute to capillary dilation.
Other common causes: skin aging, sudden temperature fluctuations, alcohol consumption, and skin diseases such as rosacea.
Who is capillary removal suitable for?
Laser capillary removal can be suitable solution for individuals with rosacea, when dilated superficial blood vessels or constant redness are bothersome. Procedure is also relevant for those who have hereditary tendency toward visible capillaries or feel cosmetic discomfort due to facial redness.
Before procedure, dermatologist consultation is performed, during which skin condition is evaluated and it is determined whether laser removal is suitable method in specific case.
In what body areas is capillary removal performed?
Most commonly, capillaries are removed in facial area – on cheeks, nose, chin. Procedure is also performed in décolleté zone and on legs, where small superficial vascular networks can appear.
How is laser capillary removal performed?
During procedure, laser beam is directed to dilated capillary. Hemoglobin present in blood vessels absorbs light energy, so blood vessel is thermally damaged and closes (coagulates). Damaged blood vessel gradually breaks down and is naturally resorbed in body.
- Before procedure, few weeks prior, it is worth avoiding sun baths and tanning bed, and blood-thinning medication use should be discussed with the doctor.
- During procedure, light tingling or heat sensation may be felt. It takes about 15–30 minutes, depending on treated area size.
- After procedure, temporary redness, slight swelling, or bruising is possible, which usually passes within a few days. During the healing period, skin should be protected from direct sun rays and protective creams with SPF should be used.
